NULYP Programs Overview

The following are National Urban League Young Professionals initiatives that many of our local chapters participate or implement in their communities.

YP LEAD Summit

YP LEAD Summit is a one-of-a-kind combination of professional development and community action, YP L.E.A.D.S. is a three-day summit designed to empower young people to create positive change by connecting them with business leaders, policymakers, and, most importantly, each other. Led by the National Urban League Young Professionals, expect engaging plenaries, reputable experts, insightful training, exclusive networking, and social events – all geared towards equipping young leaders of the Urban League Movement. This summit is hosted annually during the National Urban League Conference.

Advocacy

The National Urban League Young Professionals acts as a support arm of the National Urban League’s work in advancing policies that protect and expand civil rights. Through our ongoing civic engagement work, we aim to ensure every resident has the ability to fully access our democracy.

Civic Engagement

The Bounce Back was NULYP's civic engagement blueprint to equip young professionals to fully participate in our democracy. It was designed to increase the following:

  1. Voter Registration Public

  2. Policy Engagement

  3. Local and Midterm Election Turnout

For the upcoming election cycle, we plan to build upon this blueprint to effectively mobilize citizens and get out the vote in key local and national elections.

National Voter Registration Day

Every year the National Urban League Young Professionals across the country takes collective action to ensure every voice in our community is heard through the power of the vote by our participation in National Voter Registration Day.

National Voter Registration Day was created to assist millions of Americans who find themselves unable to vote because they miss a registration deadline, don’t update their registration, or aren’t sure how to register. While students have been the heartbeat of many civil rights and progressive movements, they oftentimes are an underrepresented voting segment in local and national elections. NULYP focused on helping to reverse this trend by empowering young voters to turn out to vote!

National Day Of Empowerment

National Day of Empowerment is a partnership between the National Urban League of Young Professionals (NULYP) and the National Council of Guilds. On this day chapters throughout the country bring awareness to a topic of relevance. In recent years we have focused on the U.S. census, financial security, generational wealth, and real estate. The goal is to host events that foster financial wellness and empowerment within our communities.

National Day Of Service

Each spring, National Urban League Young Professionals (NULYP) chapters nationwide celebrate service by joining together to promote comprehensive STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, math) educational opportunities and mentoring. By planning activities that expose black and minority communities, particularly youth, to fields they are underrepresented in, chapters generate excitement and awareness. Chapters partner with organizations in the fields of STEAM and mentoring. Past events include STEAM career fairs and panels, trips to museums for hands-on experiences, and interactive workshops hosted by companies such as Microsoft and Apple. 

Event Highlights:

  • Career Fairs to expose youth to careers in STEAM, presented by YP members and other experts in a variety of fields

  • Museum Trips to expose youth to creative and hands-on exhibits focused on science and the arts

  • Interactive workshops hosted at area schools and stores like Microsoft and Apple to highlight engineering, in everyday life as well as in extreme circumstances

YP Fit

YP Fit is an initiative that encourages healthy living for NULYP members and the communities we service. Our approach to wellness is holistic with the goal of connecting the mind, body, and spirit. Chapters throughout the country participate in fitness challenges, awareness campaigns and blog series.

Join Week NULYP

Join Week is a mechanism to increase awareness and involvement in NULYP chapters by Young Professionals in their communities through a concentrated "blitz" of activity.
