Cherrelle J. Duncan is a multifaceted leader with a passion for public service, literacy, culture, and community. As the Director of Community Engagement for LINK Houston, she is a supporter of an equitable transportation network, working to ensure that all Houstonians have access to safe, affordable, and reliable transportation options. In this role, she leads community outreach efforts, builds coalitions, and advocates for changes that prioritize the needs of vulnerable communities.
Duncan currently serves as the Leadership, Training, and Development Committee Chair of the National Urban League Young Professionals. Her committee’s efforts are focused on delivering comprehensive content, training, and resources to over 60 chapters and 10,000 young professional leaders nationwide. Between 2019-2021, as a LTD committee member, Cherrelle assisted in curation of content for the national conference, Whitney M. Young Conference, and YP Essentials webinar series. Prior to this role, she served terms as the Vice President, Treasurer, and Fund Development Chair for the Houston Area Urban League Young Professionals.
In addition to her professional pursuits, Cherrelle is deeply involved in community organizations and initiatives, including serving on the board of directors for the National Forum of Black Public Administrators Greater Houston Chapter, Birthday Bash Box, and member of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo's Black Heritage Committee. She is also dedicated to her family’s nonprofit, Ashmay’s Seeds of Abraham and is a former member of the Junior League of Houston and the Association of Fundraising Professionals Greater Houston Chapter. Committed to civic engagement, Cherrelle serves as Volunteer Deputy Voter Registrar and precinct chair.
Cherrelle's commitment to community extends beyond her work in government, justice, and transportation advocacy. She is also an entrepreneur and development professional, owning and operating SOA Co. Books. Through her pop-up bookstore, she is working to promote literacy and cultural awareness in Houston's underserved communities, while also supporting local Black-owned businesses through her Liberation Market.
A Lafayette, Louisiana native, Cherrelle holds a Bachelors in Public Relations from the University of Louisiana and a Masters of Public Service & Administration from The George Bush School of Government and Public Service at Texas A & M University. Cherrelle's diverse experiences and unwavering commitment to justice, equity, and community empowerment allows her to make a difference each day.
